Distribution pattern
With a patchy distribution in the coniferous belt in the high mountains of the Rila-Rhodope Massif, Vitosha, Western and Central Stara Planina, with single breeding sites in Kraishte, Sredna Gora, Plana, the southern parts of the Eastern Rhodopes, etc.

Habitats
The species breeds entirely in coniferous forests of Picea abies, Pinus peuce, P. heldreichii, P. sylvestris and P. nigra. It is relatively rare in mixed forests.
