Distribution pattern
With patchy distribution in the coniferous belt in the high parts of the mountains Rila, Pirin, Slavyanka, Western Rhodopes and Vitosha, as well as in the Western and Central Stara Planina, where due to the lack of a true coniferous belt the distribution is more dispersed. Isolated breeding sites are found in the lower regions of the Lozenska Mountain, Ihtimanska Sredna Gora and the Eastern Rhodopes.

Habitats
Breeds only in coniferous forests, in forests Picea abies, Abies Alba, Pinus peuce, P. sylvesrtis and P. nigra.
