Distribution pattern
With patchy and more dense distribution along the valleys of the rivers Struma and Mesta and their adjacent areas (especially in Southern Pirin and the foothills of Slavyanka), as well as in the Eastern Rhodopes and Sakar. More dispersed in the Derventa Hills, the western part of Strandzha, the hilly areas along the valley of the Tundzha River and the eastern part of Sarnena Sredna Gora. Isolated breeding sites are found in Eastern Stara Planina, Cape Emine.

Habitats
Breeds mainly in Sclerophyllous scrub, especially on exposed slopes or in ravines. The highest numbers are reached in monotype or mixed bushes of Paliurus spina – Christi, Juniperus excelsa, Juniperus oxycedrus, Carpinus orientalis, and often among more open pastures with single trees – Quercus pubescens, Q. coccifera, Q. virgiliana, Q. cerris, Q. frainetto, Pyrus eleagrifolia and P. amygdaliformis, etc. Less common in temperate heath and scrub (Crataegus monogyna, Prunus spinosa, etc.).
