Distribution pattern
With limited patchy distribution, concentrated mainly in the coniferous belt of the mountains
Rila, Pirin, Western Rhodopes, Slavyanka, Vitosha, Western and Central Stara Planina. Bulgaria is situated near the southern border of the breeding range of the species in Europe.

Habitats
The species breeds entirely in coniferous forests of Picea abies, Pinus peuce, P. heldreihii and P. sylvesrtis. As an exception in mixed forests.
