Distribution pattern
With patchy distribution, concentrated mainly in the higher parts of the Rila-Rhodope Massif, Western and Central Stara Planina, Sredna Gora and Vitosha, more dispersed in the Eastern Rhodopes and with isolated breeding sites in Sakar, the Thracian Plain, Rui Mountain, etc.

Habitats
Breeds mainly in coniferous forests of Picea abies, Abies alba, Pinus peuce, P. heldreihii, P. sylvestris and P. nigra. Less common in broad – leaved deciduous and mixed forests. Less frequently found in public parks and gardens in settlements in mountainous and fore – mountainous regions.
