Distribution pattern

Patchy distribution on the territory of the whole country, covering more consistently Strandzha, Eastern and Western Stara Planina, Sredna Gora, Vitosha and the mountains around it, Pirin, the Central Rhodopes, the Black Sea coast, along the Danube River and the river valleys of Iskar and other larger rivers in the Danubian Plain, Tundzha, Arda, Struma, etc. Dispersed in the Western frontier mountains, Sub – Balkan Valleys, etc.

Habitats

Breeds in primary broad-leaved forests: alluvial and riverine forests and brush, broad-leaved deciduous forests and mixed forests, often also in denser riverside belts of ‘longoz’ type, sometimes in old suburban parks, rural settlements and in areas with summerhouses, rarely in coniferous forests.
