Distribution pattern
Found in all lowland and mountainous areas in the country with small wetlands overgrown with higher aquatic vegetation. The main population is concentrated in the Thracian Plain, along the Black Sea and the Danube River, in the Danubian Plain, Sofia Field, and along the valleys of all larger rivers.

Habitats
The species is found mainly in marshes and non-marine waters with water fringe vegetation, in standing fresh waters, in standing brackish waters, as well as in waterlogged areas in towns, villages and industrial zones.
