Distribution pattern

With linear and patchy distribution in the plains and the low areas of mountains over the whole country, close to the river network (middle and lower reaches), the Black Sea coast and isolated water bodies with standing waters. Almost entirely absent from more dry and forested plains (Dobrudzha, Ludogorie, etc.).

Habitats

Breeds on gravelly and sandy banks, islands and bars in the riverbeds, on sandy coastal beaches and sand dunes, as well as on shingle seashores, sometimes on the banks of micro-dams, marshes or other standing fresh waters, rarely near standing brackish waters and in coastal lagoons. Occupies similar biotopes in towns, villages, industrial sites, also breeds often in gravel pits close to rivers or other water bodies.
