Distribution pattern
With patchy distribution, concentrated mainly in the beech tree belt of Stara Planina (eastward to the Sliven Mountain). With isolated breeding sites also in Rila, Rhodopes, Osogovo Mountains, Belasitsa, Strandzha, etc.

Habitats
Breeds mainly in old broad – leaved deciduous forests of Fagus sylvatica in the higher mountainous parts, especially on more wet slopes. Less commonly found in forests of Quercus sp.
