Population size: 3 000 – 5 000 pairs

Distribution pattern

With patchy and less dispersed distribution in plains and in low hilly areas in different parts of the country, mainly in Kraimorska Dobrudzha, the areas around Derventa Hills, in Sakar and the northern parts of the Eastern Rhodopes, the Thracian Plain and the Struma River Valley with the adjacent parts of Southern Pirin and Slavyanka. With isolated or located in neighbouring squares breeding sites also in other parts of the country.

Habitats

Breeds mainly in steppes and dry calcareous grasslands, in dry siliceous grasslands (most often pastures) and waste lands, less often in perennial grass crops (alfalfa fields) or in smaller grasslands in crop fields.
