Distribution pattern
With patchy and dispersed distribution, mainly along the Black Sea coast, in the Thracian Plain, along the Danube River and some closely positioned water bodies in the Danubian Plain. Isolated, probably incidental breeding habitats can also be found in other parts of the country.

Habitats
Breeds most often in saltpans or near other shallow water bodies – coastal lagoons and saline terrains with halophytic vegetation, and in more rare occasions – on the banks of standing brackish waters and standing fresh waters, where it builds its nests in the grassy water fringe vegetation.
