Population size: 700 000 – 1 000 000 pairs

Everywhere in almost the entire country except for the higher parts of the mountains and the areas with dense forests.
Comparative distribution of the species compared to the first breeding birds atlas (Iankov, 2007): Breeding locality until 2007 | Breeding locality until 2007, confirmed after 2015 – | New breeding locality after 2015. – The breeding localities after 2015 are identified on a base of raw data from smartbirds.org.
Habitats
Breeds in wide open areas with mesophilic grasslands, dry siliceous grasslands, steppe and dry calcareous grasslands, often with sparse shrubs or single trees in temperate climates; in strips of shrubs among perennial grasses, crops and other (annual) grass crops (but rarely inhabits large, intensively cultivated agricultural areas); in grassy orchards, tree and bush plantations, in strips of trees, shrubs and mosaics of them especially in fields; along roads, rivers, etc.; as well as in shelter belts. Very common in uncultivated areas such as wastelands, pastures, steppes, meadows, etc. Although less common, it can be found in larger forest glades and on the edges of sparse forests when they border arable lands. Occasionally breeds in the outskirts of towns, villages and industrial zones (even in large neglected backyards in the villages).
