Population size: 0 – 5 pairs

Distribution pattern

Extremely rare, probably irregularly nesting species. Recorded as breeding species only once in Bulgaria. On June 14-21, 1993, a nest with young, fed by their parents, was found in the area of the Shabla Residence (near the Shabla Lake). In recent years, it has been observed during the breeding season in the Rila Mountain.

Habitats

The nest was found in artificial plantation of hybrid poplars (orchards, tree and bush plantations), but it is more likely to be found in conifers and mixed forests in the mountains.
