Distribution pattern
With patchy distribution favouring the coniferous belt of the Rila-Rhodope Massif, Vitosha, Western and Central Stara Planina, where the easternmost breeding sites of the species are found in the country.

Habitats
Breeds almost entirely in coniferous forests, in communities of Picea abies, Abies Alba, Pinus heldreichii, P. sylvestris and P. peuce. Less common in mixed forests, mainly in communities of Fagus sylvatica mixed with coniferous species.
