Population size: 400 – 600 pairs

Distribution pattern

Dispersed and grouped in all lowland areas. The main part of the population is concentrated in the Danubian Plain and along the River Danube, in the Thracian Plain, along the Black Sea coast and in the Sofia Field. In many places, breeding sites appear to be grouped together.

Habitats

The species breeds mainly in marshes and non-marine waters with water fringe vegetation, in standing fresh waters, in lagoons, and in standing brackish waters.
