Atlas of nesting birds in Bulgaria

Levant Sparrow hawk

(Accipiter brevipes)

Category of conservation concern (IUCN, 2020) – Least Concern

Population size: 200 – 340 pairs

Distribution pattern

Clearly shown affiliation towards river valleys determines its overall distribution. More compact distribution along the Danube River and along the valleys of its tributaries in the Danubian Plain, in Dobrudzha (mainly in the dry river valleys), along the valleys of the larger rivers in South Bulgaria (Maritsa, Tundzha, Struma, Arda and others), and along the Black Sea coast. The rest of the breeding sites are dispersed mainly in smaller valleys in plains and low mountains.
