With patchy and dispersed distribution covering the larger part of the territory of the country, mainly the hilly and low mountain areas.

Habitats
Breeds most often in old nests of the Corvidae, mainly in strips of trees, shrubs and mosaics of them, especially in the woody vegetation along rivers and on islands in them, sometimes at the tree lines or in sparse broad-leaved deciduous forests (groves of Robinia pseudoacacia, especially on the slopes of the valleys), in orchards, tree and shrub plantations (including plantations of Populus sp.). Sometimes in public parks and large gardens (including older cemeteries) or even in the towns, villages, and industrial zones.
