Population size: 200 – 350 pairs

Distribution pattern

With patchy and dispersed distribution mainly in Sakar, the Eastern Rhodopes, and Western Strandzha and along the rivers Maritsa, Tundzha and Mesta (including their tributaries) and in the lower parts of the nearby mountains. To the north reaches Rila and Sredna Gora, the southern foothills of the Eastern Stara Planina and Cape Emine.

Habitats

Breeds mainly in open broad – leaved deciduous forests, often with undergrowth, or in sclerophyllous scrub mixed with single or groups of trees (mainly Quercus sp.), in old or overgrown with bushes orchards, tree and shrub plantations, strips of trees, shrubs and mosaics of them, including those along rivers, public parks and gardens.
