Distribution pattern

With patchy and dispersed distribution mainly in low mountains and foothills, more dense distribution in the Eastern Stara Planina, the Eastern Rhodopes, in places in the Fore-Balkan, Strandzha, Western Stara Planina, the Struma River valley and adjacent mountainous areas, etc. More dispersed in Sredna Gora, Sakar, the Danubian plain, the Thracian Plain, etc.

Habitats

Breeds mainly in deciduous forests, especially in open forests of Quercus sp., Fagus sylvatica, less often in mixed forests. It also inhabits shrubs in heath and scrub and Sclerophyllous scrub, as well as orchards, tree and shrub plantations, public parks and gardens, and other parts of the settlements with yards scattered among natural habitats. In the Western Rhodopes at higher altitudes builds nests on fruit trees in such settlements.
