Distribution pattern
With limited patchy, dispersed distribution mainly in the coniferous belt in the mountains, and covering mainly Western Bulgaria – the high parts of the Rila-Rhodope Massif, Vitosha, in Western and in some places in Central Stara Planina.

Habitats
Breeds almost entirely in coniferous forests of Picea abies, Pinus peuce, P. heldreihii and P. sylvestris. It is less common in mixed forests.
