Distribution pattern

Distributed everywhere in the hilly, low – mountainous and open field areas with sparse forests and shrubs in most of the country, with the exception of the agricultural areas in the Danubian Plain, Dobrudzha, the Thracian Plain and the Burgas Plain.

Habitats

Breeds in mesophilic grasslands, steppes and dry calcareous grasslands, dry siliceous grasslands, temperate heath and shrubs, alpine and subalpine grasslands, most often near broad-leaved deciduous forests, coniferous and mixed forests, sometimes close to strips of trees, hedges, and mosaics of them, orchards, and tree and shrub plantations. It is also found in smaller meadows, clearings, pastures and openings in the dense forest massifs.
